Dr. Emily Barker
Dr. Emily Barker earned her PhD in chemistry in 2023. She taught chemistry for seven years during graduate school and taught Dutch for six years as a hobby. In her free time, Emily loves learning foreign languages.
Emily worked in ABA for one year to gain experience before founding Successful Minds. While in the field, she drew considerable attention for her skill in interacting with young autistic people of all ages. However, she felt that her goal of fostering growth through curiosity about the world was missing from the clinics where she worked.
Raised in Seattle by two software engineers who were always driving her to orchestra practice, Emily was horrified to find that even “ethical” ABA was being run by people whose values did not align with those of the brilliant scientists, engineers, and musicians she grew up around and was taught by.
At Successful Minds, Emily provides education and instruction for autistic people that is consistent with how top scientists and engineers approach learning.
